WP Engine

WP Engine is a multi-site provider. One set of API credentials lists installs (including dev/staging/production). After you connect the account, link each ConstellaWP site to the matching install UUID.

Prerequisites

Section titled “Prerequisites”
  • A WP Engine account with API access enabled
  • API user and password from the WP Engine user portal
  • ConstellaWP owner or admin

Steps

  1. In the WP Engine User Portal, create or copy API credentials (API user + password). These are not your portal login password unless you reused them.

  2. In ConstellaWP, open Hosting, choose WP Engine, and set:

    • A display Name
    • API User
    • API Password
    • Save. ConstellaWP calls https://api.wpengineapi.com/v1/user with HTTP basic auth to verify.

  3. On the site Settings → Hosting connector, select this account and the install that matches the site.

What you get after linking

  • List sites — installs on the account
  • Server backup — trigger a WP Engine backup
  • Purge cache — purge WP Engine cache
  • Core managed by host — ConstellaWP hides WordPress core updates for that site

BYOS backups and restores still use your storage.

Common errors

Error Likely cause
Authentication failed Portal password used instead of API password, or API access not enabled
Empty install list The API user cannot see the installs you expect (wrong account)
Core update missing Expected — core is managed by WP Engine on linked sites
